Winter in Bermuda?

Something stolen from Pri. She made it but I totally associate with that :)

Afternoon walk....

It's already last day of January. I must say, that winter was really gentle to us. As far as I know its not always that nice and warm here. Beside a few rainy and cold (13degrees) days we had very nice weather. That's really good cause our moods started to be weather-dependent. The sunny the better. We all  feel homesick sometimes and get to miss something: family, friends, food, hometown, weather, activities and I could count down more and more things that one can miss. But the time is passing so fast. So many thing behind us and a lot ahead us. Things we experienced and memories we have together as a group will be forever with us. I am very happy to see how some of us already got new work/study opportunities. That's how I imagined we benefit from this training. That's awesome and congrats to those POGOnians who made one step forward in their careers and to all for becoming better scientists. Study, work, reading and writing papers and within all this also find the time to enjoy Bermuda! Piece a cake! and...
Good luck with the projects!! Cheers!

Dockyard

Because of Mara's birthday we went on a trip to other side of the island, to Dockyard. It took us 'only' two hours. Unfortunately the weather was not on our side that day. Even though it was nice and sunny in the morning so we even took our swim suits, it got cold and rainy afternoon.

Christmas 2011

This year's Christmas I spent in different style. Philippine crew from the Atlantic Explorer organize Christmas dinner at the dock next to the ship. They made every effort to ensure that everything was nice and festive. They roasted a pig on the spit and prepared a lot of delicious food like turkey, shrimps or spring roles. We also prepared some food for this occasion. Each one of us made some special meal from our country. So there was Russian vegetable salad, Indian rice and milk, Brazilian 'pudding', Japanese sushi, Chinese dumplings and Polish pierogi off course. Chunli put a coin inside one of the dumplings for a good luck in coming year to the person who finds it. The lucky one turned to be Pri - congrats!!
Everything was great except of the weather. But it didn't stop us from having good time. We were eating all the delicious dishes and listening to the american carols. After dinner the crew set up a karaoke and most of us tried their hand in singing with bad and... worse effect :-) and after midnight the party started.

My Birthday

This year, as my friend pointed out, I had the longest lasting birthday of my life (so far) because it started in Poland just after midnight so it was 7:00pm in Bermuda and ended here at midnight, so it was 29hours.
I must say it was very happy 29hrs EVER!!! I had really great time and I spent it with my new friends who surprised me with many birthday gifts. And off course there was a cake. The most delicious chocolate-muss cake ever, made by Pri. There was mold wine and gingerbread cookies made by me and Argentinian picada (crackers, cheese & ham). Everything was perfect that day: the food, the people, the weather and it made my day.

My precious

and Truffle was with us too

Baking cookies with Truffle

My first gingerbread cookies =)

Why not. It's Christmas so why not to bake some cookies. Nice smell in whole house and You feel like Christmas. I must say that they are not that bad as for the first time. I even found some christmas theme molds to make Santa and christmas socks.
Check it out!

And I even had some help! Truffle. Cute Labrador I am taking care of while his owner is gone home for Christmas.
